HOW I HELPED NBC HAVE A HIT TV SERIES.
The doorman at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the financial district blows his whistle for a taxi.
I drive up and he puts some bags in my trunk and puts a man in my back seat and says that he is going to the airport.
So off we go. I start a conversation with the customer. I start off with something simple like, "nice day, isn't it?"
He agrees with me and says that he was up in San Francisco on business. I say to him, "You know, you look familiar.
Are you an actor or something?" He said he was and that he was on some TV shows - "The Facts of Life," "The Golden Girls"
and a few other shows. So we continued talking and talking all the way to the airport. We talked about how he grew up in
Lexington, Kentucky. I told him I was familiar with his famous aunt who was a jazz singer. He told me about when he grew up
there would be famous people over his house all the time like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby.
We continued our conversation and I asked him
what he was working on now. He said he was working on a pilot for a new medical show that was going to begin in the fall on NBC.When
I got him to the airport and he got out of the cab I said, "Good luck on the new show."
I always figured because I said "Good Luck" the show ER became a hit. Scroll down to see who I had in my taxi and drove to the airport with.

This is what George Clooney looked like back in 1994 when I drove him to the SF Airport.

Here's another photo of George Clooney.
